About High River
A Community With Heart
High River is a charming agriculture community built on the banks of the majestic Highwood River. It’s a town where people say “hello” in passing; a place where you can chat with the mayor at the local coffee shop and where film crews have gathered for nearly a century to capture our breathtaking scenery and historic authenticity.
Take a walk or drive through our town today and you'll discover a beautiful and diverse small town community that continues to flourish in every way imaginable.
Past, Present and Future
From the iconic marquee of the Vaudeville-era Wales Theatre to the sandstone bricks of High River’s original train station, every building has a story to tell. These stories are detailed on the many informational plaques you find as you explore High River again and again.
Visitors will be drawn to the beautiful murals that adorn several of the downtown buildings. These enormous, hand-painted works of art represent many of the key events in our town’s history, dating back to well before the first settlers arrived in the area.
Be sure to visit the Museum of the Highwood to learn more about High River’s rich history and colourful residents - past, present and future.
